Divemaster

Discover what it takes to earn a PADI Divemaster certification - PADI’s most popular professional - level rating. This program introduces you to the concepts, skills, and knowledge necessary to join the ranks of PADI Professionals worldwide.

What to expect

  • IMPORTANT

In a word, like all leaders in diving, a Divemaster is someone who serves other divers.

Missing masks, broken straps, lugging cylinders and reminding divers how to adjust BCD bands… These are the job.

It is the ability to serve others by handling these kinds of tasks and more – cheerfully and enthusiastically – that makes someone a professional worthy of the title, PADI Divemaster.

If you don’t have a heart for helping less experienced divers – helping them grow, solve problems, learn, be safe and have fun – please, ask yourself whether you should be in this course.

What’s inside

Part 1 e-Learning

Your independent study will include interacting with eLearning and watching the integrated PADI Divemaster Video clips, then completing the Knowledge Reviews. You should also watch the Divemaster Skills Videos.

There are other materials you’ll need to use and reference throughout your divemaster training and after certification as a PADI Professional. Some of these items you may already have from previous courses and some of them may be supplied in your PADI Divemaster Crew-pak. Make sure you have these or ask your instructor about obtaining them.

Part 2 Exam

When you’re ready, you’ll take the PADI Divemaster Exam, which covers the different study areas. You need to score 75 percent or higher for certification; if you earn less, you’ll take a makeup after you’ve had ample time to go over what you missed with your instructor and restudy the material.

Part 3 Water Skills

This section develops and evaluates your overall waterskills and improves your existing dive skills. The section includes timed swims, rescue evaluation and refining your basic scuba skills so that you can role model for beginning divers learning those skills.

Part 4

Practical Application

This portion consists of projects, workshops and applying what you’ve learned in real or simulated divemaster situations. These include creating an emergency assistance plan, completing a dive site map, and a search and recovery task.

You’ll also develop your abilities as a PADI Divemaster in training and nontraining situations, either working with actual students and divers under instructor supervision, or in simulated practice sessions in which you and other candidates role play as students and divers for each other.

Part 5 Completion

Cogratulations!

Upon completing all the requirements for certification, you’ll have earned the PADI Divemaster certification and become a member of PADI, the world’s largest and most respected organization of dive leaders and professionals.
